Albemarle County Police said a man robbed the BB&T Bank on 29 North around 10 a.m. today while seven scared bank employees and customers were inside. Police say this is second bank robbery in less than a week that has left the FBI and Albemarle Police searching for the man responsible

"These people are pretty shaken up," said Lieutenant Texiera, of the Albemarle Police Department.

Police said the man walked into the bank, slipped a note to the teller, and ran on foot down Proffit Road with an undisclosed amount of money.

They said he didn't show a weapon and no one was hurt, but many were frightened. The Lighthouse Christian Preschool across the street put themselves on lockdown for hours.

"The blinds are closed, the doors are locked, and no one is going outside until I have further notice," said Sharon Parkinson of the Lighthouse Preschool.

Bank employees were able to set off the silent alarm and get a full description of the suspect.

He is a black male between 5 feet 7 inches to 6 feet tall with a thin build. He was wearing a black baseball cap with the letters DG or DC on it. He also had a black shirt on with a white shirt underneath, knee length shorts and new tennis shoes.

It's a description very similar to the man that robbed the First Citizens Bank on Dominion Drive last Thursday, July 7. Police brought out the bloodhounds, hoping the scent will get them a step closer to putting the suspect behind bars.

"If it is indeed the same person, I don't know if it is or it isn't, it's somebody we want to catch very quickly," said Texiera.

If you have any information about the robbery or the suspect in question, the FBI is asking you to call Crimestoppers at 434-977-4000.
