The Bill Howard Golf Tournament kicked off Thursday morning out at the Birdwood Golf Course in Albemarle County.
Over 40 teams came out for the day-long event to raise money for the Alzheimer's Association.
This is the 16th year for the tournament and they expect to raise over $100,000 today.
The director of the tournament says that over the past 16 years they have raise $1 million, all to help with Alzheimer's research.
“Alzheimer's is a disease that there's no answer for, and there's no medication for it, and it's affecting more and more people every day,” said Bill Howard. “So we are just trying to raise money to help the caregivers and do whatever we can to help the families.”
The event continues Friday with a derby party and silent auction at the Omni Hotel.
