Police responded to a convenience store, the Pic and Pack, at the corner of Meade Avenue and Stewart Street just after 7:30 p.m. tonight. Witnesses told police two men entered the store with a weapon and stole a bag of money. After some intense searching through the woods of the Rivanna Trail, they located two suspects.
"Descriptions were given for the two people. We immediately surrounded the area and from what the officers were able to see and what witnesses were able to tell us, we were able to catch and detain the two men we had [for] the robbery. We were also able to find some clothes that they had shed from the robbery," said Lt. Gary Pleasants of Charlottesville Police.
It took Charlottesville Police about 45 minutes to capture the two men. According to police, one of the men shed some clothing he was wearing to throw off the scent of the canine units searching. No one was injured in the incident.
Police are still searching for both the money and the gun used in this crime. They do however have two people in custody.
