Saturday morning families attended the Smart Beginnings Expo at the Carver Recreation Center to kick off story fest.
The expo was sponsored by Smart Beginnings, and area public preschools attended, inlcuding Head Start and Bright Stars.
The event was important for parents too. They learned about quality and affordable local preschool options.
"Parents can come here, learn about quality childcare options, about public pre schools and their kids can be entertained at the same time," said Miriam Rushfinn, Smart Beginnings Coordinator.
"What's happening here in Charlottesville in this region is tremendous. It's one of the strongest smart beginnings initiatives," said Scott Hippert of Virginia Early Childhood Foundation.
Kids met the Cat in the Hat, and Henry the Dragon. They also had a raffle and craft activities.
