Gas Prices Continue to Rise

September 2, 2005

Gas lines four, five, and in some cases six cars deep say it best, gas prices are on the rise and you better get the most you can for as little as possible.

"I think things will get worse before they get better, so i just want to make sure I have enough gas to get to work and back everyday," said Driver Michael Shannon.

With gas stations in the area charging more and more at the pump, a lot of people's holiday traveling plans have been cut short.

"I was planning on going up on the mountain and spending a couple days, but with the gas prices it would cost my family $150, and that's not even counting the room or anything, so I just assume I'll stay home," said driver Evelyn Robins.

Roy Wyant on the other hand has decided to hit the road despite the prices, but says he'll really have to make this trip count. "I won't be taking no more this year, unless it's an emergency."

While the cheaper gas stations, charging $3.19 or slightly less are overflowing, other stations, charging $.20 more seem to be more at a standstill.

"It's bad but I guess we don't have any choice," said Driver Peggy Eskanazy, who is on her way home to northern Louisiana.

Despite the fuss about gas price fluctuations, Eskanazy is keeping things in perspective.

"We're a lot more fortunate than a lot of people. I've got a car to drive, I've got a roof over my head and clothes on my back. A lot of people in New Orleans don't have that," she explained.
