In the first day of the 2005 Boys Scouts Jamboree, tragedy struck when four troop leaders were electrocuted while setting up their camp at Fort AP Hill in Bowling Green, Virginia. The leaders were from a troop based in the western section of Anchorage, Alaska.
A BSA spokesperson said the incident happened between 4:30 PM and 5:00 PM. The men were setting up tents to establish camp. While setting up the tent, one of the poles struck a power line, electrocuting six people. Four were pronounced dead, two others are hospitalized in stable condition.
The names and identities are being withheld tonight. The Caroline County Sheriff says that all family members of the deceased have been notified. The investigation continues into the exact cause of the incident.
The Jamboree is being attended by over 40,000 troops and scout leaders. It will continue for the next ten days as originally scheduled.
