A family tradition is continuing in Madison County, and now the community will soon be able to benefit from it. Madison General Store is coming to town and it's bringing more than 50 years of tradition with it.

"Certainly it will be more of a family type of atmosphere than a lot of chain stores," said co-owner John Lohr.

Bringing more of the community into the store, that's what Lohr and his sister Jane Gibson hope to do with one of the newest additions to Madison County.

Opening a grocery store isn't new to the brother and sister duo, you could say it's in their blood. Their father opened a grocery store in Madison in 1946 on Main Street.

"It's not completely new to us. It's been 15 years since we've been in it, but we're keeping a manager that has been here since he was 13," said Lohr.

Lloyd Greene, store manager, has worked closely with the Lohr family for years. "I feel like I'm a part of the family," he said.

Family is a word being used often in the Madison General Store. Greene said that he can't wait until the store opens next month because of all of the things the store has planned.

"[We're going] to do something with the girl scouts, [and] boy scouts," explained Greene. "[The store] is going to be a family atmosphere."

Once the last item is stocked and the doors open, a community will be a bit closer to some of their All-American favorites.

Lohr says, "I'd like to think my mom and dad both would be proud of us for [opening the store]."

The store opens August 10th, and if you are interested, they are accepting applications right now.
