Runners on their marks. The Darden Cares 5K kicks off Saturday September 24, 2005.

The early morning race will begin and end at the Darden Park. Darden welcomes the community to participate in their event. The money collected will be given to AmeriCares for Hurricane Katrina victims. Organizers said this race isn't just for competition.

"Anybody can come. We are giving prizes away for [the first dog to finish the race], the first stroller, [the first] mother-daughter teams, father-son teams, [the first to finish who is] under 15. Anybody can come out. This isn't just for runners, this is more about raising money for hurricane relief," said Meredith Demarso, the Darden Cares 5K Coordinator.

The race starts at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday September 24. The $20 entry fee can be paid at the entrance.
