One of the 18 men originally indicted on federal drug and weapons charges back in February found out his fate today. A federal judge sentenced Carlton Luck to 37 years in prison.

Luck was previously found guilty on all counts of his indictment. He has about a 20-year criminal history. While federal prosecutors were happy with the sentence, Luck's attorney believes it was too harsh.

"I made an argument in the letter that I filed that it was closer to 20 years, just applying the guidelines," said Luck's attorney, Dave Heilberg.

"This is a violent, violent man. And the only way to deal with [men like him] is to remove them from this community and we've done that for the next 37 years,” said U.S. attorney for the Western District of Virginia, John Brownlee.

Luck's attorney is planning an appeal. The other 17 defendants named in the indictment are set to face trial in November.
