It was raging waters in Charlottesville as a water main burst and gallons of water shut down traffic for most of the afternoon.
Around 10 a.m. on Locust Avenue, the scene on the street looked more like a scene from the movie "The Perfect Storm," than a residential neighborhood.
Traffic on Locust Ave. just south of the 250 bypass was blocked because of a burst six-inch-wide water main.
The noise from the clean up brought several Locust Ave. residents outside to see what the commotion was. One man's wife was asked to call for help by someone who noticed when the pipe first burst.
"Somebody was walking up to the house across the street, and came and told my wife that they needed to call 911because the water main had broken," explained Locust resident Ted Scouras.
Public Utilities Manager, Jim Palmborg says that incidences like this are unavoidable.
"It can break at any time due to age or metal fatigue or something like that, so there really is no way to prevent this sort of thing [from] happening," said Palmborg.
For hours, nearly a dozen residents were without running water until the main was repaired. Most said this wasn't much of an inconvenience, just as long as the pipe was fixed. Most dealt with the noise and water with ease.
"I just wish my little nephew was here! He'd love all the trucks and all the action!" explained Scouras.
The water main was fixed by 4 p.m. on Friday.
