Tonight, an Albemarle County family is mourning the death of their son, a former track star at Albemarle County High School. Kelly Watt died Saturday at UVA Medical Center.
The 18-year-old collapsed from heat stroke while running along Ridge Road Tuesday evening. An officer found him in a ditch four hours later. Temperatures climbed into the 90's that day. Watt's father described his son as a great athlete and student.
"He was an over-achiever, but he was a very humble, easy-going shy child, not what I would call one of these cocky people. And he got along with everybody, said Paul Watt, Kelly Watt's Father.
Watt ran track all four years of high school. He was expected to run track at The College of William and Mary this fall.
