An elderly woman was hospitalized tonight after crashing her car into a brick wall.

Officials say the woman was making a left turn on Water St. from 3rd St. S.W. when she lost control of her vehicle, hit a cement pillar, and then swerved across the street into a brick wall.

Officials are investigating the cause of the accident.

"[We are] in the middle of sorting through if it was a medical [problem], or a combination of medical and vehicle problems," says Sgt. Durette with the Charlottesville Police Department.

The woman suffered what was believed to be minor back and neck injuries.
