The U.S. Department of Education has awarded a $150,000 No Child Left Behind Grant to the Charlottesville Public Community Charter School Planning Group.

The planning group submitted a proposal for the charter school for at risk kids months ago.

At that time the proposal received an unfavorable recommendation from a local review team, but now charter school officials are hoping the Department of Education's vote of confidence will make a difference locally.

"We went through a rigorous review process and were chosen out of many schools that applied for it and believe that it indicates their faith in us that we can produce a high quality charter school," says Charter School Co-founder Bobbi Snow.

Charter school officials still need approval from the Charlottesville School Board before they can move forward.
