The Charlottesville City School Board is one step closer to finding a brand new Superintendent, after a school board meeting tonight. After careful deliberations, the school board decided unanimously to hire an independent company based out of Illinois to help lead them to a new superintendent.

After combing through several proposals, the Charlottesville City School Board decided to hire Hazard, Young, Attea and Associates to head their superintendent search.

"They cater each search to the community and its needs, and so he shared those with us without laying out the search plan," said Board Chair Julie Gronlund.

Over the past month, Board Chair Julie Gronlund and Vice Chair Alvin Edwards looked over applications and interviewed three firms. They decided on the Illinois-based firm because of one key element.

"They are the only one's who mentions and believes that the bottom line is that this is about children," said Edwards.

The Board is looking to replace departing Superintendent Scottie Griffin whose contract officially ended June 30th. The company is aware of Charlottesville's history and hopes to move the school district towards the proper candidate.

"They are familiar with what has been going on here and the fact that stability has been a disadvantage for us," said Gronlund.

The recommendation and subsequent unanimous vote drew support from all of the Board members present.

"Their proposal is very impressive. I think that you all have a done great job and I thank you for your hard work," said Board Member Ned Michie.

Hazard, Young, Attea and Associates are currently conducting Superintendent searches for San Diego, Syracuse, East St. Louis, and Virginia Beach. The Charlottesville school board hopes to use some of that national exposure to find their perfect hire. There's no official time-table just yet for the search process.
