Charlottesville School Board Hears AYP Results

Video will be available shortly.

August 18, 2005

the preliminary results were announced a few weeks ago--but now final testing scores are in and they were brought to the school board. These are the AYP results that will show how Charlottesville schools stood up to national standards, where as SOLs are state standards.

The results shared at the school board meeting were mixed. On the downside the district as a whole did not meet AYP standards. Only five schools were fully accredited out of nine.

On the upside all elementary schools met full accreditation, which school board members said in the past was their focus last year.

"When you're starting down low it's easier to make large jumps and we're at a point where we're going to have to work hard, we're going to have to work together--the strategic plan, the school improvement plans, everything is part of this," said School Board Chair Julie Gronlund.

Walker Upper Elementary, Buford Middle, and Charlottesville High School did not pass accreditation. Although Clark is pending, several school board members said they were pleased with its progress.
