Fundraiser Robbery
Early Wednesday morning Charlottesville Police say, a man walked into the Mellow Mushroom where a group of UVa women were holding a fundraiser for cancer research.

Early Wednesday morning Charlottesville Police say, a man walked into the Mellow Mushroom where a group of UVa women were holding a fundraiser for cancer research.
The man then allegedly took an envelope with money inside.
Because of this incident, fewer people will be able to be helped by the American Cancer Society.
The organization isn’t letting that damper their spirits, they say they'll continue raising money.
“I would say if you really needed it, if there wasn't food on the table that you’re welcome to it. If not I urge you to give it back because cancer has no prejudices it will affect anyone. One day they may need that money,” said Deidre Kelly, American Cancer Society.
Even though proceeds totaled about $400 the American Cancer Society says that amount of money can do a lot for research.
“Four hundred dollars could have been months of keeping these samples in our research labs alive and well,” said Kelly.
Proceeds also go toward helping patient services, like the free wigs and prosthesis ACS gives out.
The may be down by a few hundred bucks but they aren't letting this loss effect them.
“To have someone come and take a large sum of money it's sad. I have to say that it's not going to stop or kill their spirits. It's sad to hear it today but tomorrow is another day,” said Kelly.
The Mellow Mushroom in Charlottesville is helping out. They've already made monetary donations and are planning to donate food for Saturday’s Relay for Life event.
"I know that we're going to be more than happy to do that to try to help them bounce back since we obviously feel partly responsible for this because it happened in our restaurant," said Ray Forthuber, Kitchen Manager, Mellow Mushroom.
Charlottesville Police are still looking for the person who stole the money. If you have any information police are asking you to call crime stoppers at 434-977-4000.
