A hot dog burglar has struck in Earlysville. Late last week someone allegedly stole a six-foot statue of a frankfurter from a grocery store.
It's a mystery that has people in Earlysville scratching their heads. An abduction of sorts.
A giant hotdog, new to the neighborhood, standing just higher than six-feet weighing more than 200 pounds, is missing.
"He's been here for almost 4 months now and became quite a novelty of the town and now he's gone," said Josh Blanthorn, owner of the All Good Grocery Store.
Blanthorn who owns the store on Earlysville Road is talking about Harry, the giant frank. What he describes as the store mascot.
"How many people can say I have a picture with a giant hot dog," said Blanthorn.
Now Harry is missing, stolen overnight late last week.
Harry is usually chained up in front of the store. But one day recently, managers came to work and discovered that the chain had been cut. Now they've launched a manhunt for the hot dog.
"I hope the hot dog returns," said customer John Worth.
Regulars at this neighborhood grocery store are hoping for a safe return.
"The hot dog has a wonderful personality. It's very friendly to children. Very communicative with adults. It's great to have around," said Worth.
Albemarle County Police are taking it seriously saying it's no laughing matter. They've launched an investigation hoping to find the hotdog.
Meanwhile, Josh can't help but laugh knowing that his mascot is making someone else smile.
"We find it a little more lighthearted because what is this person going to do with a 6'4" 200 pound hotdog. We just hope he's not being abused," said Blanthorn.

Even a simple web cam can do a good job on recording a burglar, not to mention more expensive security systems. I use web cab that can detect motion. It's amazing how burglars strike whenever they see an opportunity. Now, when the vacation time is coming I took an extra step to make my home, and not only car secure. I have purchased a CD with burglar deterrent sounds, which I play every day in my apartment when I leave it for work. And I will play it non stop when I go on vacation. The sound quality is OK, nothing spectacular, but since you are listening to it through the closed door, it works great. Web site is: www.DeterrentSounds.com. Another good site is www.audioguard.com.
