Parents in Greene County are now joining others across Virginia who've recently gotten an early wake-up call for school.
Greene County parents finally have their day to celebrate because today is the first day of school for Greene County Public Schools.
Students in Greene County are trading in their lazy days of summer to hit the books this morning. The county along with the county of Orange, is getting back into the swing of things today rather than on a Monday like most school divisions. The mid-week start initiative is something new for Greene County Public Schools this year.
"We just looked at the calendar, and talked about some other divisions which tried this. It seems to work out well with the teachers coming in, and their workdays starting last weeks for three days, and having a weekend. Then, having two additional days to get in their classrooms, meet parents, and so forth," said Superintendent Ray Dingledine, of Greene County Public Schools.
The superintendent says each school will request feedback from parents, and determine if it will be done again next year.
