The night began on a good note for David Toscano who ran for the 57th district seat on the House of Delegates.

His opponent Tom McCrystal called in to concede at 8:00 p.m. and by 8:15 Toscano gave his acceptance speech.

His long time coworker, Mayor David Brown was at the Charlottesville Ice Park for support. He said from what he knows, the voters picked the right man for the job.

"In part because Toscano was a great city councilor for 12 years. He was thoughtful, he listened to people from all points of view. He really did a great job leading the city so I'm excited to have him as a delegate," said Brown.

But, Toscano knows he has some pretty big shoes to fill. "Mitch Van Yahres' was there for 24 years and yes they're big shoes to fill and I'm going to try really hard to fill them. I'm going to need a lot of help from folks in this community," said Toscano.

Toscano said he has a plan for the first day in the delegates seat after he takes a breather from all the campaigning.

"I have to get acclimated. I'm going to be a first timer and I'm going to have to learn the ropes of the General Assembly. I hope to introduce some legislation. I'm going to work real hard to represent this community," said Toscano.

As for the 58th district candidate Steve Koleszar, who was the underdog in this race, he lost to Republican Rob Bell. But he said he ran with the intention of getting better leadership in the General Assembly.

"I was very proud of the campaign that we ran and we stood up for the beliefs and the ideas and causes that we think are important, that are more important than Rob Bells agenda," said Koleszar.
