Hard work with the UVA Cardiovascular Rehab and Wellness Program is paying off for one man.

After coming to UVA Cardiac Rehab as a preventative measure 15 years ago, Bill Duren, Jr. is celebrating his 100th birthday.

Duren, who is a former Dean of Arts and Sciences at UVA and retired math professor, credits his longevity to a number of things including a healthy diet, a good heart and good genes.

"Genetics help a lot," says Duren.

"I had an uncle who lived to be 100 on one side, and an aunt who lived to be 100 on the other side, and a lot of people in my family [lived to be] over 90, so genetics is a very important part of it."

Duren still exercises three times a week for 30 minutes and says he's very grateful for the rehab program.
