The high price of homes in the area was the hot topic of conversation by the county and city. The third annual Chamber Local Government Luncheon brought a group together to discuss the issue, along with possible causes and solutions. For the past several years, houses in both the city and Albemarle County have gone up by about 25 percent annually.
"Over the last four years we've surveyed our members and affordable housing is at the top of the list of the issues facing our community that pose the largest challenge to businesses in the community," said vice-chair of the Chamber of Commerce, Steve Blaine.
Officials here say affordable housing is a regional problem. They also add that partnerships with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity are key to overcoming the problem.
