In the final push for retiring delegate, Mitch Van Yahres' seat, David Toscano, the democratic candidate, shared his ideas for the 57th District on Good Morning Charlottesville.

Toscano has plans for improving education stretching from pre-kindergarten schools to college. He believes it is crucial for the state to adequately fund education, and promises, that if elected, he will push for education to come first when drafting the budget.

On Good Morning Charlottesville, the candidate acknowledged the pain of spiking gas prices to residents, which will only worsen with the arrival of winter.

Toscano said there are existing programs, such as Dominion's energy share program and Charlottesville's gas assistance program, that citizens need to be aware of to protect themselves from high prices.

Toscano also cited economic growth as an important issue for the 57th district. According to the candidate, the area has suffered a net loss of 2,400 manufacturing jobs in the last five years.

He suggests building small local businesses that hire existing residents as one way of keeping Charlottesville's economy strong and booming.

In addition, Toscano vows, as delegate, to maintain the superiority of the University of Virginia over most public institutions, as well as, to continue support of Piedmont Virginia Community College as a major job and training source.

Toscano is running against Republican Tom McCrystal.
