There are three days left to apply for Albemarle County's fuel assistance program. With social services closed over the weekend, the applications should be picked up today.
The state-run program helps families pay for their increasing heating bills. The eligibility depends on a household's size and income levels.
"Probably the best thing right now is not to rely on the mail. If we try to mail it out to you, the likelihood of it getting to you and in your hands by Monday and [have you still get it] back to us is probably going to be tight, so I would recommend people really try to physically get it in here or have somebody come and pick one up for them," said Ellen Steele of Albemarle County Social Services. As long as your application has a Monday post mark on the letter, they will accept your application.

Albemarle County has a separate heating assistance program which has no deadline.
