Some new recent survey results suggest having a new commuter rail service might be a good thing for local residents and businesses.

Right now, Amtrak is the only rail service linking Charlottesville to northern Virginia and Washington D.C., but an electronic survey by the Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce shows support for a change.

More than 66 percent of the survey's participants say if available, they would use the rail link.

"It shows that there is a demand for use out there and that generally our businesses have business ties or links to northern Virginia and Washington that would support a rail," said Steven Blaine, the Vice Chairman of Economic Vitality for the Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce.

More than 230 members of the local Chamber of Commerce responded to the survey.
