An early-morning crash in Fluvanna County on Saturday left two people dead.
Virginia State Police said speed was likely a factor in the crash on Shores Road near Union Church Road. A car lost control shortly after midnight Saturday and struck a tree.
Police say the car was likely going upwards of 80 mph on a stretch of road with a speed limit of 55 mph.
The driver, 58-year-old Allen Carter from Maryland, and his 57-year-old passenger, Hershell Edmonds of Washington, D.C., both died on impact.
