Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal crash that happened Sunday night on Route 33 and killed two people.

Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller says the call for the single-car crash took place shortly after 9 p.m. Sunday in the 6200 block of South Spotswood Trail.

Two people were in the car at the time of the crash. Both the driver and the passenger were pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing, and police do not yet have more details on the victims or the cause of the crash.

Spotswood Trail was closed from the time of the crash until shortly after 1 a.m. so police could investigate.
