Just this week in Albemarle County, police responded to several burglaries that happened in one small area.

There have been 9 burglaries--most to businesses all in walking distance from one another. One of the organizations who lost money wasn't a business you would expect to be hit.

The break-ins were near the airport in the area of Dobleann Drive and Grand Forks Boulevard. One of the hits was on a local church--and they weren't hit once, but twice in just three days.

"It seemed to be a repeat of Friday night. They just dug a little deeper last night," said Carolyn Fowley, Assistant Treasurer at Laurel Hill Baptist Church.

One or more people broke in through the sanctuary and then jimmied the lock. Once inside they went through filing cabinets and desk drawers--coming away with cash.

"The second time they came in and broke in my office and the youth pastors office. They did get some money there from the kids dues," said Fowley.

There were no signs of forced entry the second time.

"It's God's money and anytime you have a church that's small, even a little bit is a lot," said Fowley.

The burglaries are not necessarily connected. An employee of another business that got hit said a minimal amount of cash was taken as well as old cell phones and chargers. There a person or persons entered through a screen window.
