US 29 North southbound continues to cause headaches for travelers as a giant sink hole is still being fixed.
V-DOT had hoped to have the hole fixed by rush hour and have all lanes of traffic reopened but repairs are still underway and may not be finished until 10 p.m. Thursday evening.
V-DOT Public Affairs Manager Lou Hatter said, "It took almost all night to excavate the hole to get the to the pipe, replace the pipe, and then we had to backfill the hole with gravel and make sure it's all compacted correctly so that we don't have any settling or anything and...ligistics-wise it just took longer than we had hoped it would."
The sinkhole opened Tuesday night after heavy rain caused a drainage culvert under the road to collapse.
