The numbers are in and it is official: Toy Lift 2005 was a major success! After collecting many more toys than expected, it looks like a brighter Christmas for many children in Charlottesville and surrounding areas.
More than 16,000. That's how many toys have been collected so far during this year's Toy Lift. Shattering the initial goal of 11,000 toys, it seems that many needy children will wake up with smiles on their faces on Christmas morning. Coordinators of this event say that this overwhelming success would not have been possible without the generous help of the community.
"Thanks to the community again. Thanks for coming forward even though there was a lot of bad weather and nastiness. We were able to take care of a lot of kids this Christmas and make sure we have a Merry Christmas for a lot of children," said Tom Powell, founder of the Toy Lift.
The toys collected will go to children in Albemarle County and bordering counties.
If you would like to donate, it's not too late. Drop your toys off at the Quick Lane behind Colonial Auto Center, Gold's Gym, or Sprint.
