This year marks the 24th anniversary of the First Night Virginia celebration on the Downtown Mall, when members of the community come together to ring in the New Year.
Entertainment for the event will start at 2:30 p.m. on New Year's Eve and will last until the stroke of midnight.
Buttons, which give admission to the celebration, are available at many local businesses and prices are $12 for adults and $6 for children. Planners of the event are eagerly awaiting what they feel will be the best and most special First Night Virginia that Charlottesville has ever seen.
"Every New Year's Eve, ten thousand people come down to the Downtown Mall to celebrate our shared home. What First Night Virginia is, is a community building organization that takes the shape of an annual arts festival," said Steven Levine, executive director of the First Night Virginia event.
