Police filled Garrett Square Apartments where one man was shot and was taken to UVa Hospital.
Police say around 7 p.m. a black male in his early 20s was shot once in the stomach. He was taken to UVa Hospital.
He was transported by ambulance from Garrett Square Apartments off Monticello Road in Charlottesville. He suffered from a gun-shot wound to the stomach.
"There was some yelling going on. Apparently some people do know what occurred. Hopefully we'll be able to find out from them, but at this moment we don't know," said Lt. Gary Pleasants of the Charlottesville Police Department.
Family and friends gathered around the ambulance as it sped away.
"He was speaking to officers and rescue squad workers here at the scene, so he was awake and conscious. Other than that I do not know," said Lt. Pleasants.
Police believe an argument among a group of people led to the shooting. Only one shot was fired and officials have not released the name of the wounded man.
Police do not have suspects at this time. The investigation is on-going and they hope to question the victim as soon as possible.
