With all the development in northern Albemarle and Greene County, traffic along 29 may only get worse.
That is just what the Ruckersville Parkway hopes to change. Planners met with the community to answer questions. It would parallel 29 and stretch about 16 miles from the north grounds of the University, along parts of the Rivanna River and then past the airport.
"Some of the solutions to roads like this are not a single road, but a network of roads, so we're seeing this not as a solutions, but perhaps one element in a network of roads and ultimately transit alternatives too," said Gary Okerlund of Okerlund Associates.
It would be a two lane, low-speed parkway with room for bikes. Planners hop it would give drivers an alternative to 29 without traffic lights.
