If you are looking for a frugal flight, your search may have just gotten a little bit harder.
Independence Air, based out of Dulles Airport announced that it will be discontinuing all flights after 7 p.m. this Thursday. This may come as bad news for bargain hunters but travel agents say that there should be very minimal effects on the Charlottesville area.
"So many clients are flying out of Charlottesville airport now and connecting through Dulles or Charlotte that we're not sending as much traffic to Washington as we used to," said Julie Arbelaez of Peace Frogs Travel Outfitters.
This announcement ended up coming as no surprise to those in the industry.
"Independence Air kind of came out of the gates with a bang. They were selling seats for next to nothing but they didn't have a positive side to that. They couldn't have been operating in the black at any point," said Arbelaez.
If you have a round trip ticket and your return flight is scheduled after the shutdown, don't worry. The carrier will contact you and give you a chance to change your trip.
