Albemarle Co. Board of Supervisors Name Interim Member

July 10, 2013

The Albemarle County Board of Supervisors has decided independent William B. "Petie" Craddock will take the interim Scottsville seat, following Chris Dumler's resignation last month.

"Well, I'm just overwhelmed that the supervisors thought enough of my abilities and myself to go with a unanimous vote," said Craddock. "I'm sure it was hard. There were a lot of good candidates out there."

Last week, ten candidates for the interim seat spoke to the Board of Supervisors about why they would be the best choice for the district.

Supervisor Ann Mallek is confident the board found what they were looking for.

"Right away, as soon as he gets sworn in, he can jump right in," said Mallek. "There won't be as big a learning curve as someone who had never been involved in government at all."

Craddock has experience with the Chamber of Commerce and served on the Albemarle County Planning Commission for eight years.

"I think this four months is going to be really good getting back in the groove, and the Scottsville people deserve better than what they've had," said supervisor Rodney Thomas. "Petie can put that Band-Aid over it and help it heal up until the new person is elected."

Craddock's position is only temporary, as voters will be able to elect a candidate in November's special election.

"You know, you get only so many opportunities in life to step up to the plate, and I felt like this was one of those times," he said.

Craddock, a pharmaceutical sales representative, says he has no plans to run in November, saying traveling for work would get in the way.
