Heavy Rains Causing Damage to Roads and Trees

July 12, 2013

Dick Woods Road (Route 637) remains closed in both directions about a mile south of I-64 after being washed out by heavy rain Thursday night.

As of right now all of Central Virginia is under a flash flood watch until midnight. A flood warning is in effect for Albemarle Co. until 6:30 pm and for Green, Madison and Culpepper counties until 11 this morning.

A flood watch means there is potential for flooding in the area, where a warning means there is flooding currently in the area.

Thursday night, Route 29 south was flooded, two miles south of the I-64 intersection.

Crews also responded to a downed tree off of Britts Mountain Rd. in Albemarle Co. Emergency crews responded to a call on Sunset Ave. where a couple was trapped after their road flooded.

The water receded and they were able to get out, but they had never seen flooding like this in their area.
