A massive breach of personal information at the University of Virginia has put approximately 18,700 students at risk.
According to a university spokesperson, the exposure of personal information occurred on a brochure sent by a provider of student insurance mailed to students accidentally put their Social Security number onto the mailing label.
The mailing label does not specifically identify the digits as being the student’s Social Security number.
Officials are in the process of notifying students whose information was exposed, and will provide free credit monitoring to those affected.
