The Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA gives help to animals in need all the time, but this week they are going to get a helping hand.
Eight local shops from around town have joined together for the first annual Charlottesville shopping week.
A few shop owners came out to the SPCA Monday morning to meet a few of the animals they are helping out.
"I was excited because it's never been done, to my knowledge, in Charlottesville before, and I just loved that we were going to give back to the SPCA," says Lauren Brickhead, owner of Sustain.
"I have adopted a number of pets from the SPCA including our most recent, a fox hound, I decided yeah, why not? We'll get involved," says Shenanigans owner Kai Rady.
Shoppers who donate $10 to the SPCA at any of the shops will receive some sort of deal. The deals vary with the businesses but could range from a giveaway to a discount on a purchase.
"With the $10 dollar donation to the SPCA the first 60 customers will get a bag," says Rady. "Go ahead fill it with toys books, games, anything from Shenanigans; we'll give you 20% off anything you can fit in this bag."
"They get 30% off of one new item for fall, if you can believe we already have fall in the store," says Brickhead.
But all of the donations go to help the animals in need.
"We're using those funds to provide dental care to our senior animals here at the SPCA that we care for," says executive director of the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA, Leslie Herney. "Lots of times we get animals whose teeth are fractured or broken or absented."
"They have problems with their mouths and then they stop eating," says Herney. "So it's a really valuable thing to provide for our animals."
