The Sheriff's Office says they received a call for assistance from the Albemarle County Police Department early Sunday morning.
Law enforcement officers were looking for a man in his 70's that had gone out for a walk around noon on Saturday. His daughter called police around 5 PM on Saturday because he had not returned home.
Shortly after 10 PM, a woman called 911 to report seeing a man who matched the description of the missing walker. Chief Deputy Bobby Shiflett found him around 6:30 Sunday morning, approximately a mile from the closest paved road. The man said he had been lost and had been walking in the woods the entire night. He had even walked in a river for some time and had fallen on rocks and was bruised.
After being checked out, he was given a ride back to his daughter’s home.
Last week, deputies found a man who had gotten lost while walking in the Key West neighborhood. That man was lost for three hours in extreme heat.
