The African American Pastor's Council sponsored the 'Back to School Bash' at the nTelos Wireless Pavilion on Saturday.
Any student registered in the Charlottesville City Schools system was given free supplies, which included things like book bags and haircuts.
Parents could also get their kids signed up for a physical and immunizations with the health department.
Lashema Jackson, whose kids are in the city school system, says the 'Bash' was a big help.
"With the budget that we have that was very good. They gave out free items today so that helped." says Jackson.
Superintendent Rosa Atkins says it was a community effort to get kids what they need for another year.
