Pilot Makes Emergency Landing after Takeoff in Louisa County

August 24, 2013

A pilot made an emergency landing in a field not long after taking off from the Louisa County Airport.

Virginia State Police say the single-engine plane began sputtering about 15 minutes after takeoff. Its pilot tried to return to Freeman Field but couldn't make it in time.

Pilot Peter Stetson landed the plane in an open field on Roundabout Road. He was not injured in the landing.

An investigation into the cause of the emergency landing is ongoing.
