Junior Penafuentes' mother is still in the hospital after an early morning fire destroyed their trailer home on Saturday. On Sunday he's sifting through the rubble.

"I was here in this bed, this was my bed," said Penafuentes walking through what used to be his room.

He was only asleep for 20 minutes after he got home early Saturday morning when he smelled the smoke and heard crackling.

"I was wearing this and I was bearfooted and once when I saw, I came out running and saw my mom yelling," he said. "My mom was trapped cause she was saying help I don't wanna die get me out of here."

They broke through a back wall to pull her out of the bathroom.

He and his mother lived in the Diamond Court mobile home in Albemarle County for six years. He says he is grateful for all the neighbors who didn't hesitate to help save his mother.

"It hurts me to see her cry because I don't know what she's feeling," Penafuentes said.

After visiting his mom at the hospital, all that's left to do is search through the rubble - but there's close to nothing left.

He only has the outfit he was wearing that night. No clothes, photos, passports, cell phones or money. He found several quarters.

He has nowhere to call home right now but he says he's grateful to have his mom to build a new home with.

"Thank god everyone is alright and the material you can replace and repair them back, but a life you never."

He is living with older siblings until his mother gets out of the hospital.
