City officials have received word that the days of having an appointed school board are gone.
The Attorney General will allow the Charlottesville School District to have an at-large school board election on May 2.
City officials say they are already prepared for the new selection process.
"At this point in time we have been handing out packets to interested parties for people to start getting their petition signatures because to be on the ballot for elected school board, you need 125 signatures," said General Registrar Sheri Iachetta.
If you are interested in running for the School Board, applications are available at the Office of Voter Registration, located in the City Hall Annex Building.
