Dozens in the hospitality business got a look today at what others in their field offer and how they can use it to better the experience of visitors in our area.
Over 30 area restaurants, hotels, wineries, and attractions showed off their stuff Tuesday at the Double Tree Hotel in Albemarle County. It was all part of the annual Hospitality Showcase.
"Our goal...as an industry, is to have people have a great time, and leave saying we didn't get a chance to do nearly as much as we said we would do and we want to come back. And that's really our goal here--to educate and begin to foster that," said City Select partner, Roy Van Doorn.
The event gives people in hospitality a chance to sample things from others in the business, so they can make first hand recommendations.
"When we say 'oh yes, I eat there on a regular basis,' or 'yes, I was there,' or 'I went to the show last week and met the chef,' that makes it important," said owner of the Inn at Monticello, Becky Lindway.
"You kind of see what other people are doing, you try to get a feel from the people that are in the hotel business what their customers like and what they don't like," added Baja Bean owner, Ron Morse.
With the amount of money visitors spend in the Charlottesville area, many believe events like this are important.
"Visitors are crucial," said sales manager of the Charlottesville Albemarle Convention and Visitors Bureau, Joe Ward. "Three hundred million dollars in visitor's spending in the area, that makes a significant tax impact."
It's those numbers that have the industry doing what they can to make visits to Charlottesville good ones.
This marks the second year for the Hospitality Showcase.
