Funeral Planned for Master Sgt. George Bannar Jr. in Orange Co.

The funeral service for Master Sargent George Bannar, Jr., has been set for Tuesday, September 3.

Thousands are expected to attend, so the service has been moved to the gym at the old Locust Grove Middle School off Route 20 in Orange County.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 2 at Johnson Funeral Home from 5am to 9pm.

His body will be interred at the Culpeper National Cemetery.

Sgt. Bannar died on August 20 from wounds suffered in Afghanistan. He was a medical specialist attached to an airborne special forces unit.

He is survived by his wife and parents. He has been posthumously awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
