August 31, 2013

ROANOKE, Va. (AP) - Roanoke police say a resident killed a man in self-defense during an apparent home robbery attempt.

Police department spokesman Scott Leamon tells the Roanoke Times that 42-year-old Earnest Neal Jr. was shot at the home late Thursday and was later found at a nearby gas station. He died at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

The shooters's name was not released, and Leamon said no charges were expected.

A man who answered the door at the house where the shooting occurred said he was there when it happened and was still shaken up, but he declined to comment further.
