Lockn' Music Fest Brings Crowd, Traffic Tie Ups

September 5, 2013

Gates to the Lockn' Music Festival opened at 9 a.m. Thursday morning. Due to traffic, the long-anticipated event had many fans waiting even longer to take it all in.

"[There were] a hundred rows of cars. It was pandemonium, and people tried to organize it, but it was crazy," said attendee Andy Stillman. "I'm happy to be here, but it was like nine hours of waiting in the parking lot."

Stillman didn't have far to go. He lives in Nelson County. Many others traveled from out of state to get to the four-day festival.

Carlos De Cubas made the trip from Cashiers, North Carolina. He also ran into some traffic ties ups along the way.

"They were supposed to let us in last night and they couldn't so it was a little difficult at first. A little congested," said De Cubas. "I spoke to the sheriff actually and he said they just needed a little more help, but everyone has been real nice and once we were in, it's been wonderful."

In response to the traffic issues, the festival released a statement saying:

"The average time for entry into popular festivals is between 5-7 hours or more. Our search of vehicles took longer than expected."

But that didn't curb the excitement many attendees had for their favorite musicians.

"I've loved the Grateful Dead my whole life, so I'm excited to see those guys," said Jeff Keck, who is attending the festival from Chandler, Arizona.

"I'm a big Warren Haynes friend. I've known him since '96, and then the chance to see both of his bands the same day -- too much to pass up. I had to be here," said De Cubas.
