A Culpeper pastor is out on $5,000 bond after he was charged with molesting a child more than 10 years ago.

Last year the victim came forward, confessing to the church and sheriff's office that he was molested in the early 1990s when he was 13-years-old. On Saturday January 21 the pastor was arrested and placed in Culpeper County Jail.

Charles Shifflett is being charged with two counts of child endangerment and one count of indecent liberties. This is 54-year-old Shifflett's third charge in two weeks. He is a former pastor of Calvary Baptist Church. He also served as principal at the church's former school and taught kindergarten through 12th grade.

The Culpeper Sheriff's Office said it took a long time to unravel this case since it was so long ago.

"In incident occurred in 1992 and 1993 so that's quite a long way back to try to gather evidence and interviews," said Sgt. James Fox, of the Culpeper County Sheriff's Office.

Shifflett has resigned from the Calvary Baptist Church, where the incidents allegedly occurred, and he has formed a new congregation called First Baptist Church of Culpeper that meets at the Dominion Skating Rink.

In an attempt to reach Shifflett, his attorney did not return our phone calls.

Shifflett will face a trial on all three felony charges on April 4, 2006.
