Now that Crozet has a new library, the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors are trying to figure out what to do with the old library building. The Albemarle County Police say they have an idea: they want to make it into a satellite station for the department.
Albemarle Police say it would be part of their 'geo-policing' plan. That plan includes setting up sub-stations in different parts of the county to help reduce crime and reduce response times in areas like Crozet and Route 29 North.
Major Ron Lantz with Albemarle Police says, that’s not the only benefit.
"If we have that facility in the community we become a part of the neighborhood, and we are the neighbors, that is another element of 'geo-policing' where we get to know the community, we know the business owners and this would enable this to happen for us even quicker." says Lantz.
There are several ideas for what to do with the building that have been brought to the Supervisor's attention, its up to them to figure out what plan they feel will benefit the county the most.
