VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) - Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson is stepping in as CEO of the private Christian university in Virginia Beach that he founded in 1978.

Regent University announced the move Friday, one week after the school's president, Carlos Campo, stepped down.

Campo had succeeded Robertson as president and was starting his fourth year in that position. Robertson also serves as Regent's chancellor.

A university spokeswoman told The Virginian-Pilot that the school's bylaws state that the chancellor will serve as CEO if there's a vacancy in the presidency.

The board has not made an announcement about a replacement.

Regent has more than 5,800 students studying on its campus in Virginia Beach and online around the world.
