People had a chance to hear from a former presidential candidate in Charlottesville.

Former candidate for the Republican nomination for president Rick Santorum spoke at the University of Virginia on Thursday evening.

Young Americans for Freedom and UVa College Republicans and hosted the event.

Santorum spoke about topics including the importance of having children in a family unit and America's history and answered some audience questions.

After he spoke, CBS19 asked him what he thought of Virginia's race for governor.

"This is the most important election in the country right now, the election for governor here, and you got a pretty clear choice between two very fundamentally different candidates on the role of government in people's lives. You know, Ken Cuccinelli has a strong track record of someone who stands up for limited government, stands up for, you know, lower taxes, less regulation, and a, I think a Commonwealth that can be very profitable and growing."

When a student asked if he would run for president in 2016, Santorum said he's "not a planner." He shared that he has joined a business that makes inspirational, family films.
